A MAN died in unclear circumstances at a lodge in Harare last week
while in the company of a woman.
Although police are still to establish the cause of the death, they
suspect the man took some viagra capsules before being intimate with
the woman at a lodge in Malbereign.
The man a Zimbabwean based in Guinea was found dead the following
morning in his room by workers at the lodge. The workers wanted to
clean the room.
Police confirmed the incident and said the man's body was taken to a
hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The man, who was in the company of an unknown woman, went to the lodge
last Wednesday where they booked for a night.
It is suspected that he drank the capsules and became intimate with
the woman but later died.
Workers at the lodge told police that they saw the woman leaving alone
early Thursday morning but did not suspect anything.
A few hours later, they went to the room and discovered the man's body
on the bed.
A report was made to the police. The whereabouts of the woman are
still not known.
Investigations are still in progress.
Viagra is the first oral pill to treat impotence, a dysfunction that
affects millions of men worldwide. It increases the flow of blood.
Some medical experts have, however, also discovered that a small
number of men have lost sight in one eye after taking viagra.
This type of vision loss is called nonarteritic anterior ischemic
optic neuropathy (NAION.)
NAION causes a sudden loss of eyesight because blood flow is blocked
to the optic nerve.
People who have a high chance for NAION include those who have heart
disease; are over 50 years; have diabetes; have high blood pressure;
have high cholesterol; smoke or have certain eye problems.
Police said their initial investigations showed that the man suffered
from high blood pressure.
Three used condoms were found in the room.
